Marans are most well known for their dark brown eggs with the Black Copper variety being the most popular. Our favorite color here is Blue Copper, so that is what we keep for our breeding flock. Offspring can hatch out Black Copper, Blue Copper, or Splash Copper. Marans are a very friendly, calm breed that adapt well to confinement but also enjoy being able to free range.
While we strive to have the darkest eggs, there are at least 14 genes that come into play for egg color and they are not well understood so egg color will vary by hen. Marans are not an auto-sexing breeds like the others we have so they are sold straight run only (mix of males and females).

Our breeding pen consists of all Blue Copper Marans. Because of how the blue gene works 50% of offspring will be blue, 25% will be black and 25% will be splash. If you prefer one color over another you can make note of that at check out and we will do our best to accomodate that but cannot gaurantee what colors you recieve.
